Rev. Abraham Matthews' original ticket for the Mimosa
It was shambles in the docks in Liverpool before the Mimosa left on its voyage! Hundreds of supporters had wished the Welsh best of luck on their journey to South America. But there were many people who were annoyed that they were turning their backs on their country.
As the Red Dragon flew on the mast of the Mimosa, the crowd was shouting at them fiercely - many of them were against any kind of Welshness, especially in an English city. But the Welsh started singing the hymn of the colony to the tune of God Save the Queen (as Hen Wlad fy Nhadau wasn't known to them at the time). The assembled crowd were under the impression that the words were a translation of the original and the shouting slowly stopped as everybody started to listen.
